Dyma ‘Dolgelley Minuet’ sydd ar dudalennau 2-3 o lawysgrif Bangor 2299, sef llawysgrif E.Ylltyr Williams (darllenwch fwy o wybodaeth am lawysgrif E. Ylltyr Williams yma).

Yn wahanol i nifer o alawon sydd wedi eu dewis ar y blog hyd yn hyn, mae hon yn alaw sydd yn dilyn tueddiad cyffredin mewn llawer o wledydd yn Ewrop, sef i greu darn newydd mewn un o ffurfiau dawns pobologaidd rhygwladol y cyfnod. Y genre a ddewiswyd yma yw’r miniwét. Mae’r miniwét yn ddawns sydd â’i gwreiddiau tebygol yn Ffrainc tua’r ail ganrif ar bymtheg. Mae hi’n ddawns mewn 3/4 gweddol araf.

Mae’n dweud ‘by John Williams’ ar ben yr alaw – ei chyfansoddwr oedd John Williams ‘Ioan Rhagfyr’(1740-1821).
.
Mae pum adran i’r ‘Dolgelley Minuet’; mae’r trydedd a’r pedwaredd yn amrywiadau o’r ddwy adran gyntaf, ac mae’r pumed yn llawn tripledi gan ddangos mwy o gymhlethdod.

‘Dolgelley Minuet’ is found on pages 2-3 of the Bangor 2299 manuscript, which is E. Ylltyr Williams’ manuscript (you can find more information about the E. Ylltyr Williams manuscript here).

Differently to the tunes included on this blog so far, this is a melody that follows a common trend in many countries in Europe, which is to create a new piece with the structure of popular international dances of the time. The genre chosen here is the minuet. The minuet is a dance which probably has its roots in France about the 17th century. It’s quite a slow dance in 3/4.

It says ‘by John Williams’ on the top of the page – the tune’s composer was John Williams ‘Ioan Rhagfyr’(1740-1821)

There are five sections to the ‘Dolgelley Minuet’; the third and fourth are variations of the first two, and the fifth is full of triplets.
